NPP flagbearer race: Balloting for positions to be conducted today
Flagbearer hopefuls of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will vote today, Friday, October 10, 2025, for their positions on the ballot paper, ahead of the party's presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The National Elections Committee is anticipated to oversee the process following a meeting with the five candidates or their representatives at the party's headquarters in Accra.
Haruna Mohammed, Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, announced on Thursday, October 9, 2025, that the balloting would be place for all aspirants who have met the party's qualifications.
"All candidates who met and followed the requirements announced on July 29 will be balloting today. Mr. Mohammed stated that no one will be spared from any of the party's guidelines.
The exercise is being conducted in compliance with the party's constitution, which must be followed by all contestants.
On Wednesday, October 8, the NPP cleared all five flagbearer candidates to run in the party's upcoming race.
It comes after we intercepted correspondence from the party's elections committee to all competitors, indicating no disqualification and encouraging all five contenders to vote for positions on the ballot paper on Friday.
"I extend warm wishes from the Presidential Elections Committee and congratulate you on your successful vetting outcome. "The Chairman of the Committee has directed me to extend an invitation for your participation in a balloting process to determine your positions on the ballot paper for the upcoming January 31st Presidential primary," the letter stated.
The party plans to make a formal announcement later today.
The approval came after the National Council met in Accra on Tuesday to consider the findings of the Presidential Vetting Committee, which was chaired by Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, former Defence Minister.
Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, Mahamudu Bawumia, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum have all been cleared.
According to the party's agenda, the notice of poll will be released next week Friday, ahead of the national congress on January 31 next year, with a potential run-off on February 14.
