Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change Transforms into the United Party
In a bold move reshaping Ghana’s political terrain, former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen has officially converted his Movement for Change into a fully-fledged political party — now named the United Party (UP).
This transformation marks a decisive new chapter in Kyerematen’s political journey and signals his readiness to contest the 2028 general elections on an independent platform with a structured party base.
According to party insiders, the rebranding to the United Party symbolizes unity, inclusiveness, and a return to Ghana’s founding political ideals. The name also evokes historical resonance — drawing from the pre-independence United Party tradition that emphasized national cohesion and collective progress.
Mr. Kyerematen, who broke away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2023 to form the Movement for Change, has consistently championed a “Ghana-first” agenda focused on economic transformation, youth empowerment, and value addition in industry.
Speaking at a brief unveiling ceremony, Alan Kyerematen reaffirmed his commitment to building a credible third force in Ghanaian politics. He emphasized that the United Party would move beyond the politics of division and partisanship, offering Ghanaians “a genuine alternative rooted in hope, integrity, and competence.”
Political analysts say the official registration of the United Party could alter future electoral dynamics, especially among floating voters disillusioned with the NDC-NPP duopoly.
With this transition, Alan Kyerematen has positioned himself not just as a reformist politician but as a man determined to rewrite the story of Ghana’s democracy — one united citizen at a time.
