On April 26, 1999, Barima Kwaku Duah ascended as Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the 16th Asantehene, swearing the Great Oath of Asanteman with the Mponponsuo sword, a symbol of responsibility in Akan heraldry. The Golden Stool, embodying the Ashanti nation’s soul since the 17th century, underscores his role in uniting the Ashanti. The video captures him elevated among a crowd during the ceremony. Since his enstoolment, Otumfuo has driven impactful initiatives, including the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals, and environmental efforts like planting 2.5 million trees around Lake Bosomtwe in 2019 to combat climate change.
