The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has paid a solemn visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to convey his deepest sympathies following the passing of the Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The visit, which took place on October 15, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, was marked by dignity, mutual respect, and cultural reverence. Speaker Bagbin personally expressed his condolences to the Asantehene and the people of the Ashanti Kingdom, acknowledging the immense loss felt across the nation.

In his brief remarks, the Speaker also took the opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding his earlier absence during initial condolence visits — a gesture that was graciously accepted by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He was accompanied by a high-powered parliamentary delegation including the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene; Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah; Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor; Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei; Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror; and other key officials.

The visit underscored the deep cultural bond between the State and the traditional authority, reflecting a shared recognition of the Asante Kingdom’s historical significance.

Political observers have lauded the Speaker’s gesture as a rare display of unity and respect, transcending political lines in honour of Ghana’s enduring royal traditions.

As the Ashanti Kingdom continues to mourn the passing of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, Speaker Bagbin’s visit stands as a testament to national solidarity, respect for tradition, and the bridging of political and cultural institutions.
