Daddy Lumba’s Funeral to Proceed on December 6 Despite Wife’s Court Injunction – Funeral Committee Insists They’ve Not Been Officially Served
Preparations for the final funeral rites of Ghana’s highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, are still ongoing despite a court injunction reportedly filed by his legal wife, Madam Akosua Serwaa.
According to Collins Owusu Amankwah, head of the funeral committee, the group has not received any official notice from the court halting the planned activities. He emphasized that unless a formal injunction is served, all arrangements will continue as scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2025.
“We’ve only heard about the injunction on social media. Until we are officially served, the committee will go ahead with preparations for the burial and funeral of our beloved legend,” Mr. Owusu Amankwah said in a media interview.
Madam Akosua Serwaa, who is legally recognized as the wife of the late musician, has filed a suit seeking to restrain the committee and family from proceeding with the funeral. Her legal team argues that she should be accorded the full rights and recognition as the widow, in line with Ghanaian customary and marital laws.
Reports indicate that the disagreement stems from ongoing family tensions over who has the legitimate authority to oversee the burial and perform the widowhood rites.
Despite the controversy, fans and loved ones of Daddy Lumba are hopeful that the matter will be resolved amicably before the funeral date. Tributes continue to pour in from across Ghana and the diaspora, celebrating the life and musical legacy of the man behind timeless hits such as “Aben Wo Ha,” “Yentie Obiaa,” and “Theresa.”
The funeral committee has assured the public that further details about the venue and program lineup will be announced soon, promising a dignified ceremony befitting the music icon’s immense contribution to Ghanaian culture and entertainment .
